Disqualification Guidelines for Police Officer & CSO Applicants

The following behaviors may cause the disqualification of an applicant from the Police Officer and/or CSO selection process: 

INTEGRITY

- Any commission or conviction for a felony offense other than described in the Narcotics Behavior section

- Any commission or conviction for a misdemeanor, not including traffic within the last three years

- Falsification of any official document (i.e. any business record) within the last three years

- Knowingly offering, soliciting or accepting a bribe

 NARCOTICS BEHAVIOR 

- Any distribution or manufacture of a controlled substance

- Any use or possession of any form of marijuana within the last year 

- Any use of an illicit drug, including but not limited to cocaine, LSD, mushrooms, steroids, or amphetamines, within the last five years

- Any use of an illegal drug, on or off duty, while employed as a law enforcement officer

DRIVING HISTORY

- Any suspension, revocation or denial of a request for a driver’s license within the last five years

- Receipt of two or more traffic convictions (6 points or more each) within the last three years

- Receipt of more than three traffic convictions (5 points or less each) within the last three years

- Any conviction for DUI/DWAI/DUID within the past five years

- More than one conviction for DUI/DWAI/DUID regardless of the time period

 EXCESSIVE FORCE/VIOLENCE

- Any use of physical force against another person resulting in physical harm, requiring medical attention except as authorized by law within the last three years 

- More than one sustained complaint or any suspension for excessive force within the last three years.

- Any commission or conviction of any unlawful sexual contact or activity involving a child

- Any commission or conviction of child abuse resulting in any injury or any involvement in any chargeable child abuse incidents

- Any conviction for domestic abuse that prohibits the carrying of a firearm

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

- Any individual debt or debts totaling $1000.00 or more that is or was 90 days delinquent over the last two years not the result of unexpected loss of employment, divorce, injury, or illness.

-Knowingly writing two or more non-sufficient funds checks totaling $500.00 or more in aggregate within the last three years

 EMPLOYMENT HISTORY AND DISCIPLINE (including school & military)

- Any intentional omission or falsification of any question contained in the Town of Breckenridge employment application

- Any court martial resulting in dismissal from military service within the last five years
