The Town of Breckenridge requires that you consult a Planner prior to removing or cutting any trees, dead or alive, from your property.  Most tree removals require a Class D Minor development permit and can be processed fairly quickly. 

Tree removal for Defensible Space also requires consultation with the Planning Department.  Defensible Space is the area around a home or structure that has been modified to reduce fire hazard.  Click here to learn more about this topic.
